Fostering

The role of the Social Care Standards Authority with regards to Fostering is of a regulatory nature. The service provider is Aġenzija Appoġġ.  The Central Authority accredited the Fostering service within Aġenzija Appoġġ in 2010 and again in 2014.

Fostering services cannot be analysed in a vacuum and even though the Central Authority’s remit covers Fostering only, this service is fused with the Care Orders Procedures, Voluntary Placements and Alternative Care.

RELEVANT LEGISLATION

The Central Authority regulates the Fostering service through the following:

  1. Foster Care Act, Chapter 491 of the Laws of Malta
  2. Article 56 of Council Regulation (EC) No 2201/2003 of 27 November 2003 concerning jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in matrimonial Matters and the matters of parental responsibility (also referred to as Brussels II)

Fostering Agency

The Fostering service within Aġenzija Appoġġ, which in turn falls under the remit of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, has been accredited by the Central Authority to provide fostering-related services.
