The Social Care Standards Authority is responsible for verifying the integrity of social welfare service which fall under its remit and to issue licences to the services which are in compliance with its standards.
According to Chapter 582 of the Laws of Malta, services need to hold a valid licence issued by the Social Care Standards Authority in order to operate and provide a social welfare service in Malta and Gozo.
Categorisation of Regulated Licenced Services follow:
- Agencies compliant to Article 15 of the Adoption Administration Act - Chapter 495 of the Laws of Malta;
- Agencies compliant to Article 13 of the Foster Care Act - Chapter 491 of the Laws of Malta;
- Residential Services, Outreach and Community-based Services offered to individuals with problems of Substance Abuse and other Dependencies;
- Residential Services and Office Based Services offered for Children in Alternative Care;
- Residential, Respite and Day Centre Services offered for Persons with Disability;
- Community-based and Outreach Services, offered within the Community.
