About SCSA

As the regulatory entity in the social welfare sector in Malta and Gozo, the Social Care Standards Authority is tasked with overseeing all services operating in this sector. This covers a wide range of responsibilities for the Authority since we are responsible for a variety of services which differ both in their nature as well as the users they cater to.

The work of the Social Care Standards Authority can be divided into the below pillars:

  • Issuing of Licences:

The Authority issues licences for all social welfare services. No service provider may operate without an official licence issued by the SCSA, with said licence being considered as a legal document.

  • Publishing Social Regulatory Standards:

The Social Regulatory Standards published by the Authority serve as guidelines which the service providers should follow when providing a service.

  • Monitoring Services:

Through regular visits, the Authority ensures that the standards are  always being adhered to. When shortcomings are identified, the Authority issues remedial actions which the service provider should address.
